Why have you not at least cleaned any of those things up? Like the jet drive. Wouldn't water flow better or something if there wasn't a bunch of crusty stuff lining the inside? The prop thing had a bunch of gunk on it as well. Don't things like that not work as well when they aren't smooth? I am no expert, but I wouldn't have taken a soft wire brush to those before putting them back together.

That heated water pressure water is a beautiful thing.

This repair/restoration has been brought to you by: The Jeremy Clarkson School of Mechanicalicular Fixing :D (If at first you don't succeed, hit it harder)
Am I the only one that was itching to start cleaning up those components rather than just slap them back together??
Also: that paper towel fuel tank trick was amazing!

This is how we start to save the environment, only throw things out that can't be fixed.
                Good work Andrew.

15:47 it's not ready. the bearings have not been packed with grease.
I've properly done this a thousand times.
Zero fail rate on my work.

14:15 . . . is there an oil pump providing lubrication to the new bearings ?
I'd be packing them with grease, imo.

I worked for a beach rental operation back in the late 80's when that model of WaveRunner was brand new, the latest greatest. :) We had 8 of them at a time, and it was a rare day when we couldn't rent every one we had running.
I would imagine they are kind of like the original VW Bug, but of PWC's - plain, simple, kinda hard to break and easy to fix if you do, especially compared to what is on the water now.

It would be interesting to hear from you how the ride is different between that old classic "Gen 1" WaveRunner, and your new modern day machines. Are the newer ones (which I imagine have "brains" running the engines) that much of an improvement? It seems the newer, larger hulls would ride better - but then they need a larger, more complex engine... I'm sure the newer ones are faster on the top end, but how about maneuverability? That sort of thing.
Maybe do a "then vs now" review video?

Thanks for the vid, kind of a "blast from the past" for me. :)

The carelessness of pounding on the bearings and not cleaning/lubing the shaft and races made me wince. Why waste 20 minutes with a wire wheel removing corrosion? If the point of the video is to highlight bush league wrenching it was perfect.
