Bullshit - They lowered chronic homelessness, but fist time homelessness skyrocketed due to housing cost

When I first saw the title I thought it meant tracking the location of individual homeless people.

Or, maybe, just make the social welfare agency a walk-in institution where people who need basic assistance, such as housing and medical help, can sign up, be assigned a small apartment (which, of course, the government has to make sure is available, which can absolutely be done, if the political will exists), and that's it. Boom, person isn't homeless anymore. But, no, the process has to be convoluted, full of all sorts of obstacles many homeless people will struggle to overcome, because right wingers and neoliberals alike care *jack shit* about actually helping people.

I bet you that more than 70% of homeless people don’t have a phone. And where would they get internet to access the app if they can’t even afford a monthly subscription for internet survive?

To support the claim that homelessness has been massively reduced by this system, that would only make sense if there were thousands of empty beds just waiting for the homeless to fill. If this isn't the case, then no amount of making the initial processing more efficient will change anything, if there aren't additional housing available for them on a massive scale.

Why can't they, in the name of helping the environment, re-introduce wolves and grizzly bears to San Francisco and the rest of the Bay Area? The homeless problem would be cleared up in a jiffy!

1:56 are these "participants" the people studying the homeless or the homeless themselves? It seems to be the latter, in which case: wouldn't a background check exclude a lot of people who have committed petty crimes and who are suffering from drug addiction, and wouldn't a lot of the homeless, particularly the chronically homeless, not have valid government IDs?

I recently visited SF and was shocked by how visible the homeess population was-even in the touristy areas I stuck to like Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square. The city needs to invest in more affordable housing because a studio apt seems to cost like $2000. Of course you're gonna have a large homeless population if rent's like that.

You do realize we are homeless people right?! so in reality at the end of the day you will have created a paper trail attempting to help the majority of the homeless, but because you deliberately built-in disqualifiers that you already knew would be there before even offering the program to the homeless, you won't be able to help the vast majority and the paper trail you created will allow you to pocket all of the funding for yourselves.

So tell me if i read this right, an entire department for homelessness and supportive housing reduced the homeless population by a 1000 ( 12% ) in 13 freaking years.

I know that I’m not adding in the possibility of addition of other homeless people. It would have been better if they would have given the data on how many people they have removed from the streets. This clearly shows that they are trying to manipulate the data.

This reminds if of a quote from the mises institute professor that if you want to destroy a system then build a department for it.

No one is going to give over their personal info & wait 45 days for a background check just for a chance of "tailored" service. BTW how do they know that this app reduced the homeless population? The app can only track those who have "volunteered" to participate. What about those that the app knows nothing about? This is just another way for politicians to skew the numbers & said they are improving the quality of life. Instead of spending money on an app, why don't they put that money to directly resolving the issues.

So this program consolidates statistics and resources into one system designed to help reduce homelessness, but requires a background check? That’s pretty much saying “this system is designed to help everyone except those that need it”.

Good, maybe this program will help eliminate those that are easy to help. Those who really can just get a new job and be off the streets. Families that could be quickly put in homes or low-cost housing and be back on their feet quickly. It is a great first step, that will hopefully be adopted in other much larger places. Still, this will only fix a SMALL percentage of homelessness and say that it might solve HALF is irrational, at best. The only way to fix that high a percentage or higher is to FORCE those who can't get help or won't into programs that can help them fix the issues keeping them homeless. While also providing services to keep them from returning to it once they are helped.
